ALAPPUZHA: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by CPM bagged ward seven of Chettikulangara grama panchayat in Alappuzha. The CPM candidate Rohith M Pillai got a majority of 464 votes.
Pillai got 664 votes when K Varghese of Congress (United Democratic Front) bagged 200 votes. Mahesan of BJP (National Democratic Alliance) secured 184 votes.
The election was put off earlier due to death of the LDF candidate K Mahadevan Pillai (60).
The election was held on Thursday and the ward registered 76.3 percentage polling in the election.
The voters casted their votes in two polling stations -- NSS Karayoga Mandiram and Chettkulangara Krishi Bhavan. The counting was held on Friday in the grama panchayat office.
